Went to upload tunes to 4Shared and discovered they’ve boosted the file limit to 200MB. Having put some time and thought into this Alaskan-requested Latin set last night, I’m uploading the original 97MB set and that’s that.
Maybe I’ll do a 200MB set next week to make up for my annual vacation the week after that.
This one was hard. I don’t have a huge amount of Spanish and Portuguese language music. This week’s playlist:
And this is the link you can download it from.
As gangster as I could make it without going all reggaeton all the time. I really like the Caracas-based KP9000 as they’re as metal as I care to get in my dotage.
The request was for angry but my music database is geared more for ominous. Here’s the request in full:
Putting a possible bud in your Pyrex for next weeks consideration…a request for a completely angry urban mix exclusively from the southern hemisphere.
First off there was no bud in my pyrex. I checked again just five minutes ago but still no bud, kind, ganja, hemp, weed or even shake. I know, I know. Alaska’s a long ways away but ever since the first season of Heroes concluded there’s really been no excuse for not bending the time-space continuum and just doing it.
Anyhoo this set is, imho, mixed urban music from south of the border. Hemisphere? Wtf?! Mind counting for me just how many cities there are south of the equator in this hemisphere? By saying hemisphere you just counted out Bogota, San José, Managua, Mexico and the entire Caribbean including Cuba and Jamaica mon!
What’s left? Quito, Lima, La Paz, Asuncion, Montevideo, Buenos Aires and — thank god — Brazil. But rather than do an all Rio-São Paulo-Tango set, I worked from all of Latin America.
I cheated. I admit it. But I did it for you, my readers. And your sanity. Brazilian and Argentinian music seems to have been composed each with not being the other in mind. You just don’t segué from Tom Jobim to Astor Piazzolla, Dios to Suba. Not in my sets you don’t.
Shit like that’ll make you car sick.

Dept. of Unholy Coincidences.
Got this in my email while writing this post.
OK, well, interesting to me anyhow. I never get Spanish language spam.

There is a pinnacle of space between angry and ominous and it does exist somewhere.
ominous
Formerly used both in a favorable and unfavorable sense; now chiefly in the latter; foreboding or foreshadowing evil; inauspicious
Anger
Can mobilize psychological resources for corrective action
The English term originally comes from the term angr of Old Norse language.
Do you really want a sane readership with all the links inside life the universe and everything? Or a motley crew of contradictions reformulating reality?
Ideas carried on sound increasingly becoming the only option for a transitional landing. Dancing around the obvious is dead but sound waves may make it on through with a little luck.
Once again keep on going there at M-Mr. M. I am slowly understanding your lack of column desires (well not really) but if you continue to keep your pen in the incubator you should seriously consider it a new daydream duty to convert an old panel truck into a pirate ship of sorts with music and a bit of “news” and go on a very long road trip…ponder the call letters.
It would be fun and not at all sane….should really make it part of the routine ever spring for a few months or so. I’ll drive and go round up some broadcast equipment that is sure to finally Clear the Channels. With a bit of interlude intertube word of mouth-type-electrons route guidance put forth it could be fun, not too risky, and certain to get just the kind of audience that is getting it and seriously make the fence row ones do a serious double take. Plus as a bonus I am sure it would be interesting in everyway.
As always north, not always temperate rainforest, oscillations are with a smile to the gray matter you always bring to sound.
Thank you.
LOL get angry!
Given that before I could even finish reading your comment a new email came in letting me know a client’s Twitter account is now being followed by Roy Rogers Restaurants, I think the cultural battle has been lost and we’re doomed to a link-driven existence.
Commentary is superfluous. All we have left are links and tunes.
So true too..but?
Nothing like starting some culture. What seems like the wave is often just a few chunks broken off the main dirt clod (the corporate world is most adept at maximizing these ripples) as it is thrown from the river bank no one actually remembers the impact of the clod itself.
After all the to get the hair off the pelt you need some lye and to make lye you need to repetitively let the water pass through the ashes. Then you have lye to soak the hide to make a hairless hide which you can tan and then sew into some fun pouches that can carry forward the cultural dirt clods.
It all makes sense really…LOL
Come on it would be so fun. We could even sort of have a theme of organizing all the service labor in the country. They need some instigators.
I tend to favor projects that don’t require my getting out of my chair.
Life is pretty good…
