Election Day U.S.A.

Election day is finally here — time to kick out the lying liars and bastardly bastards!

In the closing days of the campaign, congressional Republicans and their allies have launched a furious, last-minute effort to prevent Democrats from making significant gains in the House and Senate today.

One embattled incumbent, Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), accused his opponent, Al Franken, of secretly orchestrating a lawsuit alleging that Coleman’s wife received $75,000 for no-show consulting work. Another, Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), yesterday accused a federal judge and prosecutors of overseeing an “unjust trial” that resulted in Stevens’s conviction on felony charges for failing to disclose gifts.

Norman Bertram Coleman, making news along with his peers on election day. Nasser Kazeminy must be soooo proud! Norman, of course, gets a free pass from the Strib today, along with a written apology to Mrs. Coleman for ever having touched DonorGate.

Juan Cole has a few comments on this race, and a link to CultureKitchen’s coverage. My final comment?

Palin releases a “summary” of her medical records, a two-page letter from her doctor. Needless to say the info was perfectly vetted and squeaky clean. Yes, it answered no questions and I’m betting we never again have an opportunity to see Sarah Baracuda’s charts.

This is not how this is done. Actual reporters normally get to see and read the actual medical records. McCain lowered the bar by setting a time limit and not letting reporters take notes, but there’s no bar here: just the word of Sarah Palin’s doctor.

Rotten person that I am, I’m not satisfied with that. Here’s Tim Pawlenty on Maddow’s show talking about Palin. (A weenie to the bitter end.)

The NYTimes asked Howard Wolfson, Kevin Madden, Ana Marie Cox, Bob Kerrey, Joe Trippi, Paul Maslin and Michael Kinsley for their take on “the” turning point in this long, long election cycle.

No, I didn’t click a single one of those links. Turning points? Try Bill Scher, James Wolcott, Maha

It’s nice to be on the same side as history, for a change.

Orwellian mischief at the White House as the morally bankrupt take a last stab at destroying democracy before they leave.

I can’t wait to see these fuckers at their war trials.

Every newspaper has a hed about Palin being “cleared” in TrooperGate. Dig deep enough and most acknowledge that this was Palin’s “pet” investigation run by her appointees. The real investigation still counts, and Palin is still subject to legal penalties.

She’ll always be Amy Camus to me, and an important part of my music collection.
