MPR’s Bob Collins posts a tribute to Gary Eichten, but in so doing reveals that Gary rigged the audience questions in last night’s Minnesota U.S. Senate race.

There’s a good reason MPR’s Gary Eichten is in Museum of Broadcasting Hall of Fame. After five Senate debates, three presidential debates, and one vice presidential debate, only Eichten got a candidate to answer the question: If you had to, what of your campaign’s agenda would you give up?

That question was, in fact, the first question that came from the audience. I think Bob Collins just revealed that Eichten, a more pain the better fiscal conservative, used the presubmitted audience questions to advance his personal agenda.

If you listen to MPR you’ve heard Eichten and his style of questioning candidates. Eichten is the epitomy of the somewhat affluent investor who is way way way too locked into the stock market to be objective regarding the economy. His pet question, if you had to, what of your campaign’s agenda would you give up?, is 100% bullshit.

An objective reporter would first add up a candidate’s agenda and put a price tag on it, submitting that number to the candidate. IF the candidate agrees (unlikely in Franken’s case since Eichten pulls his numbers from conservative sources 100% of the time), then and only then is the question appropriate.

The rest of the time it’s a moronic gotcha question that’s best described by this formula:

IF you assume Republican talking points to be true

THEN you agree that your Democratic agenda is a budget buster

AND you MUST agree that you MUST kill part of your agenda in public

THEREFORE making Gary Eichten happy

Eichten’s not a card carrying Republican (to my knowledge), but he is overly invested in the MPR money shows and Chris Farrell’s investment advice. Listening to Gary Eichten on the radio most days is like listening to Baby Boomers obsessing about their IRAs at the water cooler. Like his drive time dino-rock peers, Eichten approved of the entire Republican march to meltdown, and now wants the poor crucified until such time as he has every penny of his money back.

I predict Gary Eichten will die an embittered hack, lamenting right up until his final breath the failure of Democratic leadership to give back all the money George Bush’s policies stole from Gary.

In a brazen move to suppress the Democratic vote in Dayton, a newly reconstituted police task force busted 400 Daytonians just in time to keep some of them from voting tomorrow.

Seized were an average of $400 and 2.5 grams of coke/crack/pot apiece.

I am not making this up.

Yes, my personal election night festivities will involve far more than 2.5 grams, and if it were in my power to drink $400 worth of Imperial I.P.A.s, I would.

More on vote/voter suppression around the country:

  1. Mercy … if this really is Monaco’s final quiz he certainly put his swan song right in my wheelhouse, as T.Miss will certainly know.

    BD

  2. Actually, I cheated and asked a friend. I had no clue what this movie was from the pictures, altho I’ve certainly heard of it before.

  3. In my case, this is the FIRST quiz I didn’t need to research at all … knew it on sight.
