Late start this morning due to early errands, but es macht nichts for Michele Bachmann, the Malinesque 6th CD succubus for Jesus. Harsh? Check out City Pages’ last rendering of the Congresswoman from Big Bible Candyland:
It’s one thing for a non-campaign affiliated blog like mine or Tild’s to do something like this, but it’s another thing entirely when done by a news publication or a blog that’s closely tied to a campaign or political race. There are still lines, and for me this clearly crosses a line that counts. If you’re selling news you can’t run crap like this and be credible. And if you can’t be credible, at least try to be funny.
And try to know what you’re writing about. Here’s a screenshot of the initial feed that went out with this post:
The McCarthy mix-up has long since been fixed but confusing Gene with Joe is like mixing up the Timberwolves banging power forward Craig “Rhino” Smith with Adam Smith. Knowing everything isn’t key to reporting, but knowing what you know and what you don’t can keep you from fucking up in publicly embarrassing ways.
To their credit, CP did finally fix that “sergent” typo from a week ago.
Nothing, of course, is to Bachmann’s credit. Tinklenberg’s take is now up to $700,000 and growing numbers of 6CD voters are growing increasingly uncomfortable with being represented in Congress by a squeaky voiced extremist Lutheran with virulently intolerant views.
Coverage of Bachmann tripping over her tongue continues:
Bob Herbert (NY Times)
Martiga Lohn (AP)
Dennis Lien (PiPress)
Brownsox (Daily Kos)
Emily Kaiser (City Pages)
Palin dumps Bachmann (City Pages)
David Brauer (MinnPost)
Doug Grow (MinnPost)
Not to mention Bachmann’s latest problem: mortgage defaults districtwide that are among the worst in the nation. How useful is a Congresswoman who rips on every Democratic proposal but who brainlessly cheerleads for the rapacious financial sector? How many 6CDers are about to lose their home for buying into the same bullshit Bachmann bought into and then preached as gospel?

It’s not just Bachmann, of course. Wingnuts everywhere are behaving badly from the childish racist thugs who heckled early voters in North Carolina to voter suppression in Ohio, Indiana, Ohio and Ohio. And that’s not to mention racist wingnut cartoonists, Giuliani smearing Obama on drugs, GOoPer voter fraud in California, attacking journalists in Virginia, name calling on Larry King, robocalling, and tire slashing.
McClatchy’s David Lightman summarizes the ugliness being thrown at Obama in particular. Michigan Republicans are forced by a judge to admit to their illegal foreclosure vote suppression scheme (it’s one thing to lie, it’s another to try to do it in court — just ask Mark Jacoby).
But in 2004 there may have been some irregularities in the voting in Milwaukee, so this is all square now, right? If not, let’s call 1960 even too.

How inevitable is Obama? Al Giordano reports that the guy who came up with the rising sun Obama logo has a confederate battle flag tattooed on his arm. That’s not just reaching across the aisle, that’s reaching across two centuries.
Scout Finch looks at the St. Louis and the ridiculously underreported Kansas City rallies, and compares them with McCain’s recent Missouri visits, one of which only drew 15 people. [See also 50,000 in Orlando]
Republicans have no choice but to go negative, but in that regard they show their age by pursuing ridiculous charges that have no meaning to most modern day voters. Digby points out how ridiculous the socialist! charges are, for example. [Be sure to read the L.A. Times' interview with Digby and then read John Cole on socialism Alaska style.]
Billmon builds on David Neiwert’s groundbreaking Dolchstosslegende reporting to explain how ACORN is being sold as the backstabbers of this election cycle. Atrios ties the ACORNing of the left to racism, and Phoenix Woman shares a letter to the editor that the Strib couldn’t be bothered to run.
Not to be outdone, PZ Myers finds Creationists awed by a rock that they apparently believe used to reside in the head of some early Cave Wingnut. That’s pretty sad, but not as sad as John McCain losing the support of The Family Guy. [This morning I got the "we're sorry...." message on that video, so if it won't play for you essentially it shows Stewie and Brian mugging some Nazis and donning their clothes. Stewie lifts up his lapel and finds a McCain-Palin button on his uniform.]
How bad is it for the right? Some of their top legal scholars are assailing the the DC vs. Heller decision as judiciary activism!
On top of all of this, serious questions are being raised about John McCain’s health. (Personally, I’m more concerned with Palin’s refusal to submit anything at all, reminding me of the early accusations that Tryg was actually Bristol’s baby. Too conspiratorial for you? Just remember this if Bristol suddenly miscarries a few days before the election.)
And since we’re obviously making another shit sundae here, the cherry on top would have to be Fox News hiring proven liar Judith Miller. Why settle for war flogging reporters when you can hire the woman who lied us into war almost single-handedly?
