Do I take joy from this? Hell yes I do.

This my home turf now: small town/rural America. Everyone with that background has known of stories exactly like this one. Everyone in town knows, but no one talks and by the time the kid is in high school it’s mostly been forgotten by all but the relatives and close friends.

That and Sarah Palin is exactly the kind of control freak born again Michele Bachmann clone who would arrogantly think she could pull off such a stunt. Even a life-long bachelor like me can see what’s going on in this photo:

The Republican party will never recover from this debacle. I feel bad for the girl, but that’s because Sarah Palin is her mother, not because Bristol had a baby. That happens, and I’m sure she’ll learn from her experience and will be a better person for it.

Her mother? I suspect her mother will never recover from this public exposure. There’s a certain kind of small town wingnut mentality where everything is always full speed ahead, go go go go! Palin isn’t someone who looks back, but the rest of her life will be about exactly that.

Maybe some day Wasilla will forgive her and elect her to the city council.

Oh, and for those who are saying this is a Karl Rove dirty trick — where’s the benefit? By all accounts Palin’s behavior regarding this pregnancy has been bizarre. Even if it is her baby (and I no longer think it is), she made some amazingly bad decisions (giving a speech after her water allegedly broke, then flying from Texas to Alaska to give birth — wtf?).

The culture of the hard right is unforgiving, and that’s why it’s a culture of lies and lying liars.

They can’t handle the truth.

Here’s what the Right was obsessing about yesterday (be sure to read the last few bits).

Bush canceling RNC appearance?

With New Orleans ordering a mandatory evacuation, Bush is no longer expected to do a dramatic helicopter landing on the new I-35 bridge (which would also result in a motorcade that would paralyze my end of St. Paul).

But it also could be that given the massive clusterfuck that is Sarah Palin, Bush could be putting some distance between himself and a huge media event that may provoke the media into spending the entire week discussing rumors.

(scroll down, on the left)

And let’s not forget all those Ronvoys….

Reading how thrilled evangelical wingnuts are with the choice of Palin, I’m really hoping that the pregnancy stories are true. This is exactly the perfect bitchslap to the insufferable hypocrites who’ve been telling the rest of us how to live our lives.

Palin is a failed gambit no matter how the baby story plays out.

I also don’t think, should Gustav hit America hard, that we should ignore the possibility that there is a God, and thanks to Bush, She’s really pissed at us.

Toles on McCain.

Gustav, like Katrina, may be more damaging in the aftermath than the actuality.

CORRECTION: Palin got a passport in 2007, and has visited Kuwait, Germany, and Ireland.

Wow, I guess she is qualified to be Vice President.

Lights, camera . . . action!

It would be the most poseur-ific speech ever. (And I always thought Bush’s records would outlive me.)

National media ignoring Sheriff Fletcher’s DHS raids on hippie houses.

Probably because these raids were a national embarrassment.

Again, there were ridiculous numbers of people in town for the convention staying at those houses. To say that BUCKETS of urine were going to be used in the protest is ridiculous. If you were going to do that, you’d have guys peeing into jugs, not buckets.

I can just see the anarchists pedaling to the RNC on their bikes with open buckets of urine um, being carried somewhere on their bikes. Even if they had actual motorized wheels, how do you haul buckets of urine around in a city where every other street has potholes, washboarding or uneven wear from all the rerouted I-35 bridge traffic?

Fletcher is a wingnut, always has been. His shit is nothing short of loopy, so I’m sure the national press corps will flock to his press conferences all week long.

And for some of us, it’s going to be a very long week indeed.

UPDATE: St. Paul Democratic Mayor Chris Coleman is backing Fletcher’s play

UPDATE:  More details that diminish the bullshit Fletcher is passing off on gullible reporters. And still more. More.

  1. This story is definitely swelling faster than Palin’s belly.
I predict by the end of the day this will be a national story.

this is supposed to be at the end of the 6774f3…

  4. Ok, I’m sorry, this story is consuming my Sunday.
Posed for the Vogue photo in December. What 6 months pregnant?
    Photoshopped? Doubt it.
This is my confirmation that she did not have Trig.
I will pull away with this:

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) – Gov. Sarah Palin got a break from answering questions about federal corruption probes and natural gas pipeline applications this week to take on the heady subject of fashion.

The 43-year-old former high-school athlete and ex-television broadcaster would not be out of place in the magazine.

  5. Well, it consumed my morning, so there you have it: another plot by Karl Rove to distract the left from more important matters, like whether or not Obama’s birth certificate is forged.

  6. We’ve had copters going overhead all morning. Even more so than usual, since we live uphill from Holman.

Reading some of the tweets that are coming in, we no longer have to worry about this thing getting ugly…it’s gotten ugly. Not shocking, really.

  7. So the logic follows, who is the father.
I do draw the line here. I have read some suggest Bristol’s father is the father of Trig.
That is sick, wrong and not part of the issue. Anyone on the left should stay away from such suggestions. Or any decent person for that matter.
OK, OK there may be one or two righties that are still decent.
The truth will play out, if Sarah Palin lied, she will be held accountable.
