Eating it, locally

Kevin Hoffman over at City Pages has more links and background on the shit the over-valued and under-staffed Strib is going through.

Al Franken’s taxes are hitting him hard with voters, suggesting a lot of buyer’s remorse is already in play.

Too late. Regardless of what the DFL homies like to think, the endorsement process is like a train leaving the station. It departs on caucus night, although it’s often takes a few weeks to figure out which direction it was going when it left the station.

Predictions: Franken will clobber Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer for the endorsement, Jack will, as promised, drop out. Tim Walz will NOT run against Franken in the primary (I’m not sure what pundits who think otherwise have been smoking, but if it’s less than $100/quarter, I’d like to buy some).

Will Mike Ciresi re-saddle up? I don’t know, but I expect him to shuffle his staff a bit if he does. Anyone else? I don’t think so.

Frankly, I think we’re stuck with Franken, along with a media that is working to make MDE’s Mikey into Minnesota’s #1 Drudge style pundit and arbiter of what gets covered this fall.

Mmmm, sausages. (There’s an AIDS metaphor in there somewhere, I’m sure.)

And speaking of local restaurants, yes, the economy’s hitting the high-priced restaurants kinda hard. Which, maybe, is why my friends are doing so well with their affordable menu approach.

Just looked up and there are about 40 grade school kids standing on the corner opposite mine. Headed to the Tibetan Cultural Center, no doubt.

Or maybe not. Now they’re hanging out at the corner north of me. The light changed and they’re crossing, but thank god they’re going east. WTF? The only thing east of my place is a shipping depot for hazmat materials?!

Well, one thing for sure — I’m not going to track them to see where they’re going. Those chaperones have cell phones now, you know.

Last week’s winners, this week’s pretty easy quiz.
